Saving Terrapins
The southern river terrapin. They are among 25 of the most critically endangered turtles in the world. These terrapins have a limited range and can only be found in Cambodia, Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. While considered extinct in the wild in Vietnam and Singapore, small and scattered groups in the rivers of Perak, Kedah and Terengganu leaves Malaysia as the country with the most viable population of the species. This assignment covered Turtle conservation Society Malaysia and their efforts to collect eggs from the wild and the market, raise the hatchlings and release them back into the wild to boost their population. The series eventually became a conservation campaign, a calendar and went on an exhibition during the 29th International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB) at KLCC in 2019.
